Ever thought you'd like to work on a surface with more dimension?

The sample to the left is made with the art doll forms shown below. I began by gluing down a piece of Basic Grey Paper. I find that starting with a piece of patterned paper helpful in getting the creative juices flowing. (I may end up painting over if so much the original pattern is buried). I used my stamps, Curvature of Design & an image from the Glyph Set on the skirt & used embossing powder to add a little texture. The face is from my Ladies Heads collage sheet & the crown is from an ARTchixs Studio collage sheet. I drilled holes along the skirt edge & sewed yarn threads through the wood & through the type charms that spell muse. The washers (circles) glued on the skirt are from my washer assortment found on the Metal page. The beaded border is a faux pearl garland that I painted black. I cut down a 2x3 microscope slide for the window & a vintage map fragment (coming soon to the collage page) as the background.
Ribbons & beads finished up the details.

The wood forms are cut from 1/2 inch poplar or pine. The interior rectangle will vary in size, these are loosely cut & may not be absolutely straight &/or square. Don't expect perfection. These are meant to be basic forms for you to build on. With minimal hand tools i.e. a drill, a file, sandpaper & some Exacto blades you'll be able to alter the form so that it suits your needs. Pick up a small hand saw & cut the head off & replace it with one of your own. They can be screwed or nailed to a larger board or each other, attached to an altered book cover, etc, etc, etc. The possibilities are endless. Available with or without openings.

"Fool for Love" Heart form with rectangle opening. I started this piece with a head from the Ladies Head collage sheet & a hat from ARTchixs Studio. I mounted both to an 1/8" piece of wood & then glued that to the wood base. The heart in the center is made of polymer clay from a mold I made of my Target Heart stamp. It's a bit more 3 dimensional then you can see in the photo. I also used the brass bee & arrows that I carry in the Brass Charms section. The rest of the elements include ribbon, beads, flower petals from artificial poinsettias, X brass charm, rusty hasp, rub on letters & a heart shaped lock I got from Sky Blue Pink.

The wood frames below are for adding to altered books, or shrines, or assemblage pieces or anything else that comes to mind. They have their original finishes which can be incorporated into your artwork as is or painted, stamped, carved, covered in fabric etc, etc. In other words they're not perfect but there's a lot that can be done to & with them. I have a stash of various old frames that I will be cutting up & putting together and listing as I have time. Most of these are one of a kind so when they're gone they're gone. I'll have enough of others in the same style molding to build several variations. Some may still have dustcover remnants on the back which can be sanded or scrapped off, others may have marred finishes. If you're looking for perfection, this ain't it.
But for those that aren't and need doors, windows or glassed in areas for their artwork these might just work.

F25 Inverted Mahogany & Black Inverted Frame

Built from the bit that's left over when cutting frames with a double miter blade. Ya can't put anything in it but it makes a great lid for a box or an insert for a door (with a peep hole!) or maybe the cover of an altered book. It's 7 3/4" square (top photo) & will fit into a hole approx. 7 1/8" square. Total height is2-3/8". The square hole in the top photo goes all the way through & is approx. 3/4"sq. Condition isn't perfect, this one has large gaps to be filled as well as chips or other cosmetic issues, but it can be painted, distressed etc.

This does have some cosmetic issues, the original finish is pealing off in some places & there are some areas that will need some sanding, &/or filling. Would make an impressive door for an assemblage piece or refinish it (or distress it more) & use it to frame some art.

This one is in good enough shape to frame your artwork, though nail holes need to be filled, hard gesso would work than a dab of paint to match. For someone more adventurous, it can be sanded & painted however you like.
